Psalm of the Storm

I know a lot of folks who seem to be in the midst of storms right now. Be it work related, health related, personal relationships, or some other storm, this psalm is for you. I hope and pray it gives you a peace that it has given me.

This storm won’t stop

it seems endless.

The weariness is consuming and

hands, heads, and hearts are worn out.

These waves tear into me,

the winds are like daggers.

The pelting rain feels like stones and

the mist off the waves, like razors.

My companions are as worn as I.

I see the drain of life in their eyes.

“Save us” is our prayer, but it feels as if

you continue to watch from afar.

“Enter in, God” is our cry, and yet

the howl of wind and rain and waves

stomp down our longing.

We want to hope – we know you have

rescued before; but why do you wait so long?

Yet, though the storm rages –

even in this exhaustion, I choose to praise.

My strength is zapped, but with all I have left

I bow down and worship the Son.

Great God of all; be exalted in me,

my companions, my family today –

even in this storm.

Let new strength encourage us from your Word;

let the Word’s promise buoy us and empower.

You are God…in the times of smooth sailing;

and you are Sovereign in the storm.

Though all within seems to fail, though my insides turn inside out;

you never fail, and you balance what is undone.

You are still good and your nearness is constant.

God who saves – save again!

Hear both praise and supplication, so that

our praise expands and your glory is revealed.

Speak, “Peace. Be still” and see me, us,

to the other side where REST is waiting.
